Westling Day and Winklesea Walk

On Saturday 4th June and Sunday 5th June 2016

We are delighted to let you know about our forthcoming event on Saturday 4th June at Rye Harbour/Westling and Sunday 5th June at Winchlesea/Winklesea.

Fullthrottle Boat Charters will be taking us on Rye Bay RIB 'safaris': boat trips down the Rother channel and out to sea, a turn to port for a pass of Camber Sands (Dunsmere) then head out to the Fairway buoy 2 miles off the coast before return to Rye Harbour. As there are likely to be more than the 9 passengers the RIB can take at one time the trips will be in half-hour relays from 11.00am. Lifejackets are provided and the seats are 'jockey style' i.e. sit-astride. Anyone worried that it might be 'too fast' please don't worry - the boat is obviously designed to perform high-speed turns and race through the water but we have been assured by Fullthrottle we can go at as leisurely a pace as we would like (though a few high-speed turns might be fun!). This promises to be an enjoyable experience in its own right but for us it is also a chance to 'sail' down the Rother and see Westling and Dunsmere from the water. We will just have to imagine we are aboard Kittiwake or Thunderer!

After the boat trips there will be time for a ramble round Westling. Don't eat lunch - because:

At 2.30-3.30pm we will have Refreshments at the Vicarage (in the garden if the weather is kind), all homemade: scones with jam and cream, shortbread, fruit cake and tea and coffee. This is a very informal event, a chance to meet up with old friends and make new ones. If you have any books to swap please bring along. We hope to have an informal discussion with a 'slide show' and play a very special recording.

The cost per person of the RIB boat trip will depend on the final number of passengers but we estimate £10.00 - £13.00. Vicarage tea is £7.00 per person.

Meet: 10.45am Sat 4th June by the Lifeboat Station at Rye Harbour for the boat trips which will start at 11.00am. (As the boat trips will run until 1pm you can arrive later if you wish.) Rye Harbour has a large car park (Martello car park). Anyone coming by train there is a taxi rank at Rye Station and buses go down to Rye Harbour every hour. We are happy for you to bring along a family member or a friend but please note the boat trip is not suitable for children. If you are going to bring someone please let us know so they can be included in the numbers.

For those staying over we will have a Winklesea Walk on the morning of Sunday 5th June: details to be confirmed but probably meet 10.30am for an hour and a half of easy walking.

Please let us know as soon as possible if you are able to join us on the 4th June for the boat trip and Vicarage tea and if you are bringing someone with you. You can let us know by emailing or write to M*E*A*S 71 Brownrigg Crescent Bracknell Berks RG12 2PY. Please feel free to contact us if you have any queries.
